1 Scope

1.1 General

1.1.1 This Standard covers cured-in-place point rehabilitation systems for pipe reconstruction and also specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance tests, and markings.

1.1.2 Cured-in-place point rehabilitation systems covered by this Standard are outside of the scope of systems covered by ASTM F1216.

1.1.3 Cured-in-place point rehabilitation systems covered by this standard can be used for reconstruction of below ground gravity flow pipe systems such as sanitary sewers, storm sewers, process piping, electrical conduits, and ventilation.

1.1.4 Cured-in-place point rehabilitation systems covered by this Standard incorporate an inflatable device also referred to as a packer and a resin-impregnated woven fiberglass mat to rehabilitate up to 4 foot lengths of 2 to 48 inch nominal diameter pipe. The packer wrapped with the resin-impregnated fiberglass mat is placed into the existing pipe and inflated forcing the resin-impregnated fiberglass mat to compress against the inner pipe wall. Once the resin-impregnated mat cures and adheres to the wall in a tight continuous fit the packer is deflated and removed from the pipe.
Note: The resulting product of the cured-in-place point rehabilitation is also referred to as cured-in place pipe (CIPP).
